I'm an avid college football fan. My parents went to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. So, I grew up a Cornhuskers fan. My childhood college football fandom was great! National Championships, No. 1 rankings, Heisman trophies, etc.

The last 20 years haven't been so great as a Husker football fan and my alma mater Bucknell University isn't exactly a national powerhouse. Luckily for me, I married into a good college football team. My wife, Emily (Davis) Albers, MS, is a The University of Georgia graduate. Go Dawgs!

The big news in college football this week was the hiring of Deon Sanders by the University of Colorado Boulder. I watched Deon Sanders's first meeting with his new football team. Here, is the video.

My mantra when it comes to being the CEO of my firm is to: #HireAcquireInspire. Admittingly, I don't always follow my own mantra and get stuck in the proverbial weeds. That's why when I find examples of leaders living their visions, I get inspired.

I think top college football coaches are a great example of this mantra. They recruit (#hire) the best players, #hire the best staff, #acquire resources for their programs, and #inspire a group of individuals to compete as one for a common goal.

In less than 15 minutes, #coachprime outlines how he will: #HireAcquireInspire.

He explains the attitudes and characteristics of the type of players he's recruiting: smart, tough, fast, disciplined, and with character. Note, he doesn't say five-star recruits.

  • We've just met with seven to 10 powerful boosters that are ready to give - #acquire

He explains he wants his players focused on the National Football League (NFL) not the NCAA's #NIL.

  • We're going to believe we can win, show out, and be the best - #inspire

He explains he's been believing ever since he was a kid and told his mother she'd never have to work another day in her life. He's changing everything - E V E R Y T H I N G.

So, how do you lead your company like #coachprime? I think it starts with defining your culture and identifying the key characteristics of the type of people you want on your team.

At Albers & Associates, we want a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and results. We want people, as Patrick Lencioni says, that are humble, hungry, and emotionally intelligent.

I suspect that #coachprime reminds his players, staff, and university of his plan for how he will #HireAcquireInspire daily. I'm sure the walls of the Colorado football facility are covered with the team's core values, attitudes, characteristics, goals, and vision.

While Deon Sanders is coming, you are already there in your business. How often are you reminding your team how you're going to #HireAcquireInspire?

Perhaps, you should do it today.

Dream Big. Take Action. Be Relentless.
